The infrastructure that relies on FRP products

The infrastructure of a country relies a lot on fibre reinforced products. Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite is described as a polymer that is reinforced with fibre. It shows a class of material that falls into a group referred to as composite materials. Composite materials are prepared by scattering particles of one or more than one material in another material, which forms a nonstop network around them. The different types of FRP

FRPs are commonly used in the marine, aerospace, construction and automotive industries. They are commonly found in ballistic armour as well.

Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer
Glass fibres are essentially made by mixing limestone, silica sand, folic acid, and other small ingredients. The mix is heated until it starts to melt at about 1260°C. The molten glass is then permitted to flow all the way through fine holes in a platinum plate. The glass filaments are gathered, cooled and wound. The fibres are drawn to boost directional power. After this, the fibres are woven into various types for use in composites. There are Fibreglass Reinforced plastic items that are sold in the market and are easily available. Glass is usually a great impact resistant fibre but it weighs more than aramid or carbon. Glass fibres have superb characteristics better than or equal to steel in certain type.

Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer 
Carbon fibres contain an elevated modulus of elasticity (200-800 GPa). Carbon fibres do not take up water and are resistant to quite a number of chemical solutions. They endure fatigue very nicely and neither rusts nor shows any relaxation or creeps.

Aramid Fibre Reinforced Polymer
While you will find glass-reinforced plastic moulded products, but Aramid has elevated fracture energy and is therefore utilized in making helmets and bullet-proof garments. They are sensitive to high temperatures, ultraviolet radiation, and moisture and therefore not extensively used in civil engineering applications.

Applications of FRP
·         It is utilized in high-performance amalgam structures.
·         FRP sheets, composite poles, bars, and strips are used for strengthening a variety of structures built from concrete, timber, masonry, and even steel.
·         The walkways and stairways are also made of composites for corrosion resistance and weight saving.
Fibre-reinforced polymers are used in the building of unique structures that require electrical neutrality.
